The Circle of Dog

Patches
The dog story has come full circle here in Hoi An.  We gave away our sweet puppy, Patches, last night to Mai at Restaurant 328.  This is the restaurant where we have eaten the majority of our meals for the past year and the restaurant where we found Coconut last October.   The kids were a little sad.  Mai was thrilled. Coconut is recovering from her spaying adventure and has no idea what is going on...mean man cutting me open; mean man keeps coming back to give me shots; my baby has disappeared; I can't stop barfing; why won't they let me wallow in the rice paddy like I usually do?

Yes, we did the responsible thing and had the dog neutered (just one litter of "puppy" too late).  John was less than thrilled when he arrived at the vet's house and was asked to stay and "help."  Fortunately the "helping" only lasted until Coconut was out cold.  Then John beat a path to the fresh air and shade to wait for Coconut to be finished.  The vet invited him back in to see the bits and pieces he had removed at the end of the procedure (kind of like the mechanic showing you the parts he replaced in your car).  John had no interest in inspecting Coconut's ovaries, so he shielded his eyes, took a deep breath and got the dog in the taxi as quickly as possible.
