Good Bye Saigon: A Tribute to Traffic

Scooter Parking in HCMC
Today was the day for us to say good-bye to Ho Chi Minh City.  In a strange way it was a little sad.  We feel like we have been here forever and will miss the constant buzz of urban life.  Just two weeks ago we were getting our first taste of scooter madness, honking horns, smog and creatures of the night.  Since then we've become pretty adept at "crossing like the locals" (one hand up and eyes closed), ignoring the horns, holding our breaths when the odor is a little off and watching for rats after dark.  We've embraced the buzz, devoured the food and enjoyed the 'round the clock excitement that a city brings.  The image of this city that will stay with us more than any other, however, is the sheer magnitude of the motor-bike mayhem.

  1. I found your blog through Jenny B. Wow! Are you guys ever brave! My kids are 14, 12 and 10 and the most foreign thing we've experienced was sticky rice for dinner LOL! I can't wait to hear about all your escapades. There's nothing like living vicariously through someone braver than you! Have fun...
